Welding is a versatile skill that allows you to create your own decorative and functional pieces like tables, shelves, garden art and more. In this 30-hour class, you will learn the processes of MIG, TIG and Stick welding, gain an understanding of general welding safety procedures and how to cut and grind metal for simple projects. All equipment and safety gear are provided. Students must wear long sleeves, non-flammable fabrics, long pants and boots. This class is great for beginners or novice welders interested in improving their skillset.

From the start, you’ll learn how to safely set up your machine, properly use essential PPE (provided if you don’t have your own) and operate a wire-feed welding gun with confidence. The bulk of the class is hands-on: you’ll practice fundamental welding techniques, learn to troubleshoot common issues, and create a themed steep project that you’ll proudly take home at the end of the day. We’ll also walk through the basics of selecting your own welding equipment so you leave not just with a finished project but also the knowledge and confidence to continue welding at home.

Once the glass is in a molten state, it is shaped with special tools. Learn about the materials needed and how to safely use a torch as you practice making two different types of round glass beads with frit (crushed glass). Finished beads will be kept by the instructor overnight to be annealed in a kiln for hardness and durability. You will be able to pick up your beads on campus a few days following the class.
