Alcohol inks are a fun and fast way to make abstract art. The inks have effects similar to working with watercolors and result in a variety of unique designs depending on the base material used. In this two-hour class, you will decorate ceramic tiles with alcohol inks and rubber stamps. Each student will make 4 cork-backed tile coasters.

The ability to draw in any medium trains you to observe and become more familiar with the world around you. In this two-day intensive workshop for beginners, local artist Diann Bishop will teach you the basics of visual composition to create a landscape and still life. You’ll practice using a simple grid and ships to understand proportions and placement and create dimensions using gradation with various types of drawing dimensions using gradation with various types of drawing pencils. Have you ever wondered how beautiful glass beads were made? Glass beadmaking, more popularly known as lampworking, is the process of using a hot flame to melt small, colorful rods of glass. Once the glass is in a molten state, it is shaped with special tools. Learn about the materials needed and how to safely use a torch as you practice making two different types of round glass beads with frit (crushed glass). Finished beads will be kept by the instructor overnight to be annealed in a kiln for hardness and durability. You will be able to pick up your beads on campus a few days following the class.

Learn how to paint with watercolors! Watercolor is an expressive paint medium with several unique properties. In this six-week beginner class with Diann Bishop, discover what brushes and paints you’ll need to get started, how to work with watercolor paper, mixing colors and making flat, gradated and variegated washes.
For supplies, you will need to provide:
- A watercolor brush set that includes a size 8 round brush and size 4 round brush (bristle brushes are not recommended for watercolor painting)
- A watercolor paint tube set with a minimum of 10 colors. If you’d prefer to purchase individual tubes of paint instead of a set, some suggested colors include burnt umber, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, yellow ochre, raw sienna, purple, alizarin crimson, cad yellow, bright red and sap green.
- Six sheets of 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, 9"x12" or larger
- One pad of palette paper (any size) or you can use wax paper as a palette
- One small sketch pad with a pencil and eraser (or printer paper)
- A ruler
- A small cup or container to hold water
- A roll of paper towels or tissues
- Photos of your preferred painting subjects
- A blow dryer (optional - may be used later in the class)

Combine watercolor and ink in this mixed media class. Create graduated washes, experiment with color mixing, then add depth using ink pens with directional lines and cross hatching. Apply these skills weekly to paint subjects you choose, working toward a completed piece from your own reference photos. Taught by internationally recognized artist Diann Bishop.
For supplies, you will need to provide your own:
- One 9" x 12" smooth bristol board/paper pad
- Set of watercolor paints in basic colors (with at least the minimum colors of red, yellow, blue, green, white, brown and black)
- #8 round watercolor brush
- Black ink drawing pens (such as Micron), sizes 01, 03 and 05
- Drawing pencil - size 2H
- An eraser
- Cup to hold water
- Sketch paper notebook
- Photos of your preferred drawing subject (i.e. landscapes, people, animals, flowers, etc.)
